Upload an Expert Advisor and Indicator in MQL4 on a Windows

To upload an Expert Advisor (EA) in MQL4 on a Windows platform

  1. Open the MetaTrader 4 (MT4) trading platform on your Windows computer.
  2. In the platform, click on “File” in the menu bar and select “Open Data Folder” from the dropdown menu. This will open the data folder associated with your MT4 installation.
  3. In the data folder, locate the “MQL4” folder and open it.
  4. Within the “MQL4” folder, you’ll find several subfolders. Open the “Experts” folder.
  5. Copy the compiled “MT4 Trade Manager-Vxx.ex4” file of your EA to the “Experts” folder.
  6. Restart your MetaTrader 4 platform to ensure the newly added EA is recognized.
  7. After the restart, open the “Navigator” window by clicking on “View” in the menu bar and selecting “Navigator” from the dropdown menu.
  8. In the “Navigator” window, navigate to the “Expert Advisors” section. You should see your uploaded EA listed there.
  9. To attach the EA to a specific chart, simply drag and drop the EA onto the desired chart. Adjust the EA’s settings as needed.
  10. Ensure that the “Auto Trading” button in the toolbar is enabled. It should be highlighted in green. If not, click on the button to enable it. This is necessary for the EA to execute trades.

To upload an indicator in MQL4 on a Windows platform:

  1. Open the MetaTrader 4 (MT4) trading platform on your Windows computer.
  2. In the platform, click on “File” in the menu bar and select “Open Data Folder” from the dropdown menu. This will open the data folder associated with your MT4 installation.
  3. In the data folder, locate the “MQL4” folder and open it.
  4. Within the “MQL4” folder, you’ll find several subfolders. Open the “Indicators” folder.
  5. Copy the compiled Trial_TradeMngr_License_HarryTran.ex4 file of your indicator to the “Indicators” folder.
  6. Restart your MetaTrader 4 platform to ensure the newly added indicator is recognized.
  7. After the restart, in the “Navigator” window, navigate to the “Indicators” section. You should see your uploaded indicator listed there.
  8. The lincese is auto-activated, it is not necessary to attach it on chart.

To upload an Expert Advisor (EA) in MQL4 on MAC OS:

  1. Open Finder on your Mac.
  2. Navigate to the Applications folder and find the MetaTrader 4 application.
  3. Right-click (or Ctrl+click) on the MetaTrader 4 application and select “Show Package Contents” from the context menu.
  4. In the opened package contents, navigate to the “drive_c” folder.
  5. Inside the “drive_c” folder, locate the “Program Files” folder and open it.
  6. In the “Program Files” folder, find the “MetaTrader 4” folder and open it.
  7. Within the “MetaTrader 4” folder, you’ll find several subfolders. Open the “MQL4” folder.
  8. In the “MQL4” folder, you’ll find the “Experts” folder. Open it.
  9. Copy the compiled “MT4 Trade Manager-Vxx.ex4” file of your EA to the “Experts” folder.
  10. Launch the MetaTrader 4 application.
  11. After the launch, open the “Navigator” window by clicking on “View” in the menu bar and selecting “Navigator” from the dropdown menu. Alternatively, you can use the shortcut key Cmd + N to open the “Navigator” window.
  12. In the “Navigator” window, navigate to the “Expert Advisors” section. You should see your uploaded EA listed there.
  13. To attach the EA to a specific chart, simply drag and drop the EA onto the desired chart. Alternatively, you can right-click on the EA and select “Attach to a chart” from the context menu. Adjust the EA’s settings as needed.
  14. Ensure that the “Auto Trading” button in the toolbar is enabled. It should be highlighted in green. If not, click on the button to enable it. This is necessary for the EA to execute trades.

To upload an Indicator in MQL4 on MAC OS:

  1. Open Finder on your Mac.

  13. To attach the indicator to a specific chart, simply drag and drop the indicator onto the desired chart. Alternatively, you can right-click on the indicator and select “Attach to a chart” from the context menu. Adjust the indicator’s settings as needed.
